Under the Beach Umbrella

For my 3D design class, our group decided to make an inflatable to focus on the space provided under a beach umbrella. The original design was a rain umbrella with a large inner handle but through trial and error, we decided as a group that a beach umbrella with an inner rope handle would work out better. Working with solely recycled plastic bags was definitely a learning experience. Using different mediums is always interesting. Going into this project with no idea how the bags would look when they were inflated, I think our project was a success. By fusing six rectangles, six triangles and a floor mat, we were able to create a spacious cavity within the plastic bags. I think I can speak for our whole group when I say we were very happy with the result, and it definitely felt like we were sitting in the beach under an umbrella with the sun shinning down on us.
